Harold K. Delaney

Vermillion, SD

1940, 789, Este, F-3,

Cpl. Delaney had taken part in the Sicilian and North African invasions. He had been overseas since November 1942. World War II.

Cpl. Harold Delaney of Vermillion is killed in action.

Aug 5.1944. Mrs. Lillie Delaney of Vermillion has been advised by the war department that her son, Corp. Harold Delaney, was killed in action in France July 16,1944. Corp. Delaney had participated in the African campaigns, Sicilian invasions, and recent cross-chain landings. He was a 1939 graduate of the University high school and left for overseas duty in November 1942.

90th Field Artillery Battalion, 9th Infantry Division. Awards: Silver Star and Purple Heart.

He is survived by his Mother, seven brothers, two of whom are in the army and one in the navy and five sisters.

V.F.W. Plans Services for Delaney boys: Memorial services for Sgt. Ernest Delaney and Cpl. Harold Delaney, sons of Mrs. Lillie Delaney, who were killed in action in Europe, will be held in the Baptist church at 8:00 o'clock Sunday evening, Nov 19; under the auspices of Clay Post 3,061 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Plans for the service were discussed by the group at their Friday night meeting. Rev. Raymond Nielsen, pastor of the Baptist church will conduct the service.

Harold met his death in France July 16 and three months later, September 22, Ernest was killed in Germany. They are survived by their mother, six brothers and 5 sisters.
