Services for Elmer L. "Buck" Worthington, 79, 204 Fourth St. N.W., Mandan, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, Mandan, with the Revs. Ronald Gough and Leonard Eckroth officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. He died Aug. 4, 1990, in the Mandan hospital.

Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, where a Masonic Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Mr. Worthington was born Aug. 13, 1910, at Holland, Pa., where he was raised and educated. He attended Penn State and graduated from Colorado State University in 1933 with a degree in forestry. He married Helen Schladweiler, April 15, 1936, at Sturgis, S.D. They moved to North Dakota in 1936, and to Mandan in 1950. He worked as a forester for U.S. Soil Conservation Service from 1936-1970. He then served as part-time superintendent of Morton County Parks from 1971-1981, and part-time Mandan City Forester from 1971-1983.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Elks, Rotary, Mandan Railroad Museum Society, Nature Conservancy, Society of American Foresters and Conservation Society. He served as state president of North Dakota Jaycees.

He is survived by his wife; three daughters and sons-in-law, Edna and Michael Halloran, Redondo Beach, Calif., Joanne and Tony Eckroth, Mandan, and Phyllis and Mason Williams, San Jose, Calif.; two sisters, Marian Bellmeyer and Mrs. Ellen Burkard, both of Pennsylvania; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the Mandan Railroad Museum Society, Mandan Golden Age Club or hymnal fund at First United Methodist Church, Mandan.
