Weishar

Clarence George Weishar

Ipswich, SD

1939-40, 791, Lightning Creek, F-14, Ass't Leader, Forestry Clerk

The following from camp newspaper Lightning Flashes 1940 July-August

From Ipswich, South Dakota, comes Clarence Weishar, this month's Who's Who. Enrolled in Co. 791 on April 4, 1939, he has since worked on several projects including six weeks of tree planting which was his initiation into CCC life.

Few enrollees probably know that Clarence was temporary lookout on Bear Mountain for two weeks. He has had considerable experience on lookout construction as he has worked nearly four months on this type of job. Summit Ridge, Elk Mountain and Bear Mountain are the lookouts he has helped build.

A possessor of many excellent qualifications, Clarence has worked up to forest service clerk, an assistant leader rating. He was promoted and received his rating in August, 1939. His present job requires many extra hours of work for which he should be commended. With the fire season going full blast his duties are greatly increased.

Weishar was born December 20, 1918 in Cresbard, South Dakota. He was graduated from Bowdle high school and attended the South Dakota State School of Mines for one year. His chief interests in school were sports and journalism.

Experience in football, basketball, and track in high school made Clarence a good prospect for the School of Mines football squad. However, an injury in the first game prevented him from playing out the season. He has been a member of the baseball, kittenball and basketball teams while in Lightning Creek. At present time he is manager of the camp softball team.

One thing we can justly be proud of, is the fact that Weishar has been sports editor of Lightning Flashes ever since his enrollment. He has been editor of two successive high school annuals and sports editor one year of the Black Hills Engineer published by the School of Mines.

Clarence has never been AWOL and has a clean record throughout. He plans to stay for two years unless it is possible for him to attend school this fall.

Dependable, hard working, ambitious, admirable and valuable - that's Clarence Weishar.
