Harold was born June 24, 1921, in Walters, MN, to Hieronymus and Elizabeth (Sukohl) Pirner. He grew up in Delmont, SD, at a rural church where his father gave sermons in German. After he graduated from the 8th grade, he went on to a successful life because of his strong common sense, determination and values.
In 1939, he joined the Civlian Conservation Corps (CCC). At the start of WWII in 1941, he joined the Army Air Force where he proudly served in Goose Bay, Labrador, as an airplane mechanic. After the war, Harold worked as the Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor for the U.S. Post Office in Rapid City from 1955-1980, where he had the lowest per mile maintenance cost in the region.
He was united in marriage to his childhood neighbor Erna Lang in 1946. They enjoyed 67 years of life together and were excellent role models in every aspect of life to their children and grandchildren.
Harold was a life-long hunter and fisherman and spent his retirement years by doing volunteer work such as Meals on Wheels and helping his neighbors, doing various craftworks and spending time with his grandchildren, all of whom he adored.
Harold is survived by his wife, Erna Pirner; daughter, Kathy (Ed) Rodgers, son, Steve (Mary Ann) Pirner; and grandchildren: Jason Rodgers, Renee Rodgers, Zane Pirner and Jeremy Pirner.
