Lawrence Alvin Hunt

Winner, SD

1937, 2765, Ft. Meade, SCS-6,

Lawrence Alvin Hunt was born July 22, 1918, in Verdel, Nebraska to Warren and Elizabeth Hunt. Lawrence was a carpenter and cabinet maker. He married E. Jeanne McCartney in 1946. They had three children. Lawrence Hunt died July 7, 1989 and is buried in the Black Hills National Cemetery.

Below provided by Mr. Hunt's daughter Gayle Matz.

My father, Lawrence Alvin Hunt, enlisted in the US Army in October 1940. In WWII he was an army radio operator in Europe.

The only photo we have of his CCC days is this group. Dad is in the back row on the right.Lawrence Hunt with CCC Boys Fort Meade
In 1971 we were at Ft. Meade and he was showing us where he’d carved his initials in the concrete on the mess hall.Lawrence Hunt CCC Boy Fort Meade 1971

He had good memories of this time in his life. Prior to CCC camp, he quit high school in 10th grade and rode the rails from Winner to California looking for work.
