Howard Ezra Gruver (H.E.)

Redfield, SD

Howard E. Gruver, 66, died early Wednesday morning November 21, 1979, at University Hospital, Minneapolis, Minnesota. The funeral will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in First United Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Robert O. Hickman officiating. Burial in Restlawn Memory Garden.

Friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Friday and Friday evening at Welter Funeral home. The casket will be open Saturday at the church prior to the service.

Howard E. Gruver was born June 28, 1913 at Liscomb, Iowa, to Charles W. And Esther Gruver. He moved to the Agar and Gettysburg areas as a child, attended school at Redfield and married Dorothy Price, August 20th, 1934 at Faulkton South Dakota.

They lived at Hitchcock until 1945 when they moved to Huron. He was owner operator of Gruver Construction Company and was a member of the first United Presbyterian Church for which he served as a trustee.

Survivors include his wife of Huron; three sons, Dr. Gary Gruver of Tucson, Arizona, Galen of Coalinga, California and Charles (Bud) of Los Angeles California; four daughters Mrs. Wayne (Bonnie) King of Sheridan, Wyoming Merry Patterson of San Diego, California, Doriann Gruver of NAS Willow Grove Pennsylvania and Shelley Gruver, Huron; 12 grandchildren and a great grand grandchild; two sisters Mrs. Mary Rucker of Alamosa, Colorado and Mrs. Paul (Mildred) Brandt, Oneida. Was preceded in death by a daughter, Geraldine Miedema, November 12, 1967, his parents and a brother Leslie.

Active pallbearers are Leon Price, Charles Price, Dennis Price, Jeffrey Miedema, Steven Miedema and Gregory Miedema. Honorary pallbearers are Benny Foster and Vernon Brandt.
