Dean Leroy Wenner

Thunder Hawk, SD

1934, 1794, Rockerville, F-10,

Born January 12, 1911 in Garden City, Clark county, South Dakota, Dean Leroy Wenner age 94, passed away on Sunday March 13, 2005 at his home in Mount Vernon.

At the age of eight, Dean's family moved to a farm near Lemmon, SD where he grew up. He attended and graduated from high school at Thunder Hawk. He farmed with his father for seven years and spent a year in the Civilian Conservation Corps near Rapid City. In 1936 Dean came to Mount Vernon, living in or near here ever since. He was married to Ellen Semell for thirty-four years, until her death in 1973. In 1975 he married Virginia Garrett and had a good life until her passing in 1988.

Dean was one of the original stockholders of the former Anacortes Veneer Company; served in the Coast Guard Auxiliary during World War II; member of the Anacortes Eagles for over fifty years; Salem Lutheran Church in Mount Vernon; lifetime member of both Mt. Baker Masonic Lodge #36 of Mount Vernon and Scottish Rites Consistory of Bellingham, Eastern Star and the McLean Road Fire Department. He was also a familiar face and participant in activities at the Mount Vernon Senior Center.

Left to mourn are two adopted children, LaVerne Barnett of Mount Vernon and Peter Thompson of Lake Whatcom, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
