Emil Unterseher

Kildeer, ND

Emil Unterseher, 92, went home to be with his Lord on Sept. 9, 2008, at the Billings Clinic.

A celebration service of his life will be held Saturday, Sept. 13, at 2 p.m., at Laurel Family Christian Center, with interment in Laurel Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Florence (Sjostrom) Unterseher; daughters Emilie Williams (Bill) of Laurel, Vickie Riojas (Tino) of Bozeman; sons Richard Unterseher (Pearl) of Casper, Wyo., Raymond Unterseher (Diann) of Watford City, N.D., Rev. Robert Unterseher (Sharon) of Laurel; two sisters, Alma Baxter and Elsie Kimball of Spokane, Wash. His 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren were the apple of his eye. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Magdalena (Holtzworth) Unterseher; two daughters, Valerie and Melodie; seven brothers; one sister; and three grandchildren. Richard David Garrett, Dennis Lee and Paula Marie Unterseher.

Emil was born on the family farm near Killdeer, N.D. He served in Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) for two years. In 1938, he worked on a farm near Sioux Pass, Mont. In 1940, he married Florence Sjostrom. The family moved to Laurel in 1956, where he worked for the Northern Pacific Railroad and the city of Laurel as cemetery caretaker, retiring in 1977. They were active members of the Assembly of God Church.

Emil was a fun-loving man with a great sense of humor. He loved hunting, fishing and spending time with his beloved family. He leaves a legacy of integrity and spiritual foundation.

Visitation for Emil will be Friday, Sept. 12, 10 a.m. to 12 noon, and then again from 3 until 5 p.m. at Dahl Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at the Family Christian Center, 1002 Third Ave. in Laurel. Emil will be laid to rest in the Laurel Cemetery following the service.
