Lester H. Fokken

Lennox, SD

1934, 1790, Rochford, F-5,

Lester H. Fokken, 93, died Sunday, December 2, 2007 at Avera Prince of Peace Nursing Care Facility. He was born February 16, 1914 on a farm near Chancellor, SD where he lived until he was 21 years old.

He married Inez I. Hurley on December 3, 1937 at St. Magdalen's Catholic Church in Lennox. They were married 55 years.

Lester farmed near Hartford for 15 years. In Sioux Falls he worked at Eagle Sand and Gravel for 18 years and Minnehaha Co-op for 10 years. Farming was his pastime. He enjoyed working on the farm even after he left the farm. In retirement, Lester enjoyed traveling, playing cards and reading western novels.

Grateful for having shared his life are daughters, Cheryl (Dean) Austad of Sioux Falls and Darla (Gary) Stewart of Cottage Grove, MN; sons, Gary Fokken and Terry Fokken, both of Sioux Falls; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Deloris Plucker of Lennox and special friend, Allie Rang, of Sioux Falls.

Lester was preceded in death by his wife, Inez, in 1992 and son, F. Robert Fokken in 1986; two sisters, Anna TerHeedge and Lila Poppens; one brother, Richard Fokken.

Burial in St. George Catholic Cemetery in Hartford.
