The following from 1941 Camp Fruitdale newspaper

Oscar De Roos has been a member of Fruitdale camp since July, 1939. A few months after his arrival he was placed in the position of canteen steward. Later he became a cook.

Last November he was raised to the rank of leader and made mess steward. Oscar filled these positions of trust with efficiency. He is leaving for his home at Running Water, SD and expects to be called. soon for army training, selective service act.
