Lt. Milton R. Himalstein

Asheville, NC

1938, 2749, Sand Lake, BF-2, Camp Doctor

Dr. Milton R. Himalstein, retired chief of the ear, nose and throat department at VA Medical Center at Bay Pines, died Saturday (June 22, 1991) at Palms of Pasadena Hospital after a long illness. He was 81. An ear, nose and throat surgeon, he worked at the VA at Bay Pines from 1949 until he retired in 1976.

Dr. Himalstein was born in New Britain, Conn., and came here from Asheville, N.C. He was a graduate of the University College of Medicine, served his internship at Nebraska University Hospital and his residency in ear, nose and throat at New York Polyclinic, New York City.

He was a reserve Army officer and served in the Civilian Conservation Corps. During World War II, he was a major in the 28th Infantry Division, 103rd Medical Battalion, 48th General Hospital European Theater. He was in the second wave on Omaha Beach on D-Day and received three bronze stars and a meritorious service plaque.
