Joe Reade 95 of Marshall, passed away January 17, surrounded by his family.

He was born February 28, 1914 in Leslie Arkansas. He was a farmer, member and Deacon of South Mountain Freewill Baptist Church. Prior to moving to an apartment in Marshall in 2007 he lived on a farm east of Leslie.

Joe was a veteran of World War II serving from December 1942 to January 1946. He was attached to the 147th Infantry Regiment in Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operation.

He was active in community and civic groups. He had forty-two years of service as a member of the Searcy County Farm Bureau Board of Directors, charter member of the Oxley Fire Dept. Other interests were the Soil Conservation Service, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Arkansas Cattlemen's Association.

Joe loved people and never met a stranger. One if his favorite activities was playing dominoes, and around the Reade household, was known as the "Domino King". Family gatherings at the farm were very special to him.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Ira & Grace Reade; wife Wilma Knowles Reade; infant daughters, Margaret Ann and Barbara Jo; infant son, James Ira; brother, Gilbert Reade; sisters, Jeanne Treece, Elizabeth Corder, Lillian Johnson and Ann Harsh and daughter-in-law Carolyn Reade.

Survivors include two sons, Phil Reade and wife Cathy of Marshall, and Chris Reade and wife Dennisa of Bryant. Two daughters, Harriett Begley and husband Mitchell of Sherwood and Joan Shelton and husband Warren of Little Rock; 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 PM until 8 PM at the funeral home.

Funeral services are 10 AM Thursday January 21, 2010 in Roller Coffman Chapel, with Chris Reade and Lester Passmore officiating. Burial in East Lawn Cemetery by Roller Coffman of Marshall.

Pallbearers are Bill Webster, Wesley Smith, James Kelley, Jim Blough, James Fountain and Allen Brock. Honorary Pallbearers: Bob Sweetin, Tom Wilson and Van Toney.

The family would like to thank Searcy County Hospice and caregivers Alma Johnson and Shirley Reeves.
