Lemmon, SD

1934, 2751, Oreville, F-16,
1935, 793, Hill City, F-9, Assistant Educational Adviser

Peter John Gossman, age 95, of Stockton, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2010. He was born the eldest of nine children on September 12, 1914, in Mariental, Russia to George and Paulina Gossman. At the age of nine, Peter and his family moved from Russia to Lemmon, South Dakota where he grew up. He was drafted to the U.S. Army and served as a Corporal during World War II. In 1949, Mr. Gossman moved to Stockton, California where he met and later married Rosalie Settlemoir. Together they owned and operated several mom and pop grocery stores, most recently Waterloo Market. Peter also worked for H & R Block and O. G. Packing. He enjoyed collecting coins, doing crossword puzzles, talking politics, and was an avid reader. He also loved being outdoors and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Peter was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be dearly missed.

Mr. Gossman is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Rosalie Gossman of Stockton, daughters: Jean (Douglas) Shipman of Portland, OR and Susan (Michael) Streff of Tucson, Arizona; grandchildren: Katie Gagznos, Neal Shipman, and Adam Streff; and great grandchildren: Vincent and Roman Gagznos and Reagan Shipman. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, George Gossman.
