Otto Dewald

Streeter, ND

1941, 789, Este, F-3,

Otto Dewald, 89, Streeter, ND joined his son Russell in life everlasting on Friday afternoon April 1, 2011 at his farm home NW of Streeter, North Dakota.

Otto Dewald was born December 12, 1921 on the family farm NW of Streeter, ND, the son of Peter Dewald and Albina (Dorr) Dewald. As a youth Otto contracted out to farmers to help support his family during the depression. He received his elementary education in the local rural school and grew to manhood in the vicinity where he helped on the family farm. At the age of 15 he joined the Civil Conservation Corps and served two terms, one at Little River, MN and one at Rapid City, SD. He entered the United States Army on May 6, 1945 at Fort Snelling, MN. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and in Japan. He was discharged December 3, 1946 at Fort Lewis, WA with the rank of T-4.

He and Lea Buck were married June 22, 1948 at the United Methodist Church at Streeter, ND. They began farming two and a half miles west of Streeter where they ran beef cattle and raised small grains and have continued to reside for the last 63 years.

He was a member of the United Church of Christ at Streeter, ND, where he held various offices, the American Legion, and the Disabled American Veterans. Otto loved farming, fishing and woodworking. As a child of the "Great Depression" he developed a positive steel spirit and the ND farm work ethic that he passed on to his children and grandchildren.

He leaves behind his wife, Lea, Streeter, ND, one daughter Carey Brock, Delhi, CA, 4 grandchildren, Daniel, Jennifer, Levi and Katie, 1 brother, Bennie Dewald, Streeter, ND; 3 sisters, Irene Gienger, Sacramento, CA; Pauline Landowski, St. Cloud, MN; Evangeline (Mike) Nenow, Jamestown, ND. Otto will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Russell in 1998, 5 brothers, Ephraim, Philip, Alfred, Verner, Gottfried, 2 sisters, Otillia and Leona.
