Herbert E. Wise

Aberdeen, SD

1937-39, 793, Tigerville, F-15,

Dianna Wise-Haley provided copies of her father's CCC Service records. Herbert Wise from Aberdeen, South Dakota, was at Camp Tigerville (Hill City) with Company 793. Type of work indicates dam construction.

A report submitted in 1937 by Company 793 stated:
"The projects of the company . . . Consisted of projects located in the Harney National Forest. These projects . . . Included the construction of dams, roads, and fire breaks; the planting of fish; timber stand improvements; tree planting; and the building of campgrounds and telephone and power lines.

"Among its notable achievements was the building of the Major and Mitchell dams. The Major Dam was in the nature of a large laboratory project. Experiments were carried out with a bentonite grouting process being developed for the purpose of stopping dam leakage in earth dams. The process proved successful, and the U. S. government had it patented. In the construction of the Mitchell Dam further experimentation was done with bentonite grouting."
