Russell Benning

Faulk County, SD

Russell Benning, 59, died Sunday June 6, 1982 at Faulk County Hospital, Faulkton, SD.

He was born Feb. 25, 1923 at Rockham, S.D., and married Betty Sievers on July 6, 1923 at Miranda, S.D. He served in the Army in World War II and farmed from 1947- 1976 at Miranda until his retirement. He moved to Faulkton in 1977.

He was state commander of the VFW; local commander of the VFW and the American Legion, and served as commissioner of the VFW Teener Baseball program.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Richard, Faulkton, and Steven Cresbard, S.D.; two daughters, Mrs. Vern (Barbara) Gaver, Faulkton, and Mrs. Kevin (Peggy) Roseland, Seneca, S.D.; five grandchildren; four brothers, George, Sturgis, S.D.; Jerry and Daryl, Santa Anna, Calif., and Stuart, Redfield, S.D.; one sister, Mrs. Wally (Beverly) Olson, Huron, S.D., and his father, James Benning, Redfield, S.D.

Services at United Church of Faulkton. Burial in Black Hills National Cemetery at Sturgis, S.D.
