Bernard G. Wilcox (Barney)

Bernard G. "Barney" Wilcox was born April 2, 1917, at Ipswich to Sidney and Alma Wilcox. He came to the Black Hills in 1936 and worked as a heavy equipment operator at Sheridan Lake.

He married Vera Shafer Aug. 17, 1941, in Reno, Nev. They lived in Placerville, Calif., until 1942 when they returned to the Black Hills. He joined the U.S. Forest Service and was with the agency for 30 years, retiring in 1972.

Wilcox was an elder in Our Savior's Lutheran Church.

Bernard Wilcox died in Rapid City, SD on April 30, 1984, at the age of 67. Burial Hill City Cemetery, Hill City, SD.
