Andrew Miller Stolzenburg (Andy)

Andrew Miller "Andy" Stolzenburg, 90, of Paradise Valley, south of Livingston, died at his home, Wednesday morning, Feb. 18, 2004. Cremation has taken place at Franzen-Davis Crematory in Livingston. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at Pine Creek United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David Greep officiating. Graveside committal and burial of the cremated remains will be 1:30 p.m. in Mountain View Cemetery in Livingston. Arrangements are under the direction of Franzen-Davis Funeral Home.

Andy was born April 17, 1913, in Grand River, S.D., the son of Grover C. and Bertha (Miller) Stolzenburg. He attended country school in North and South Dakota, graduating from high school in Hettinger, N.D. Andy began work in South Dakota with the Civilian Conservation Corps. In 1937, Andy married Marien Sanderson in Mobridge, S.D. They just celebrated their 66th anniversary on Dec. 21. They moved to Montana in 1941, where he continued to work construction. He worked for Inland Construction, Albert Lalonde Construction and Schultz & Lindsey Construction. In 1964, while in Billings, he began his own business - A.M. Stolzenburg Contractor. He did heavy and highway contracting. Upon his retirement in 1978, he moved with his wife to Livingston and continued his contracting work even after retirement.

Andy was an active member of Pine Creek United Methodist Church, a life member of the Elks Lodge BPOE #394 in Billings and a member of the Operating Engineers Association, was Past President and member of the Bozeman Chapter of the Audubon Society, and a member of the Native Plant Society. He enjoyed wildlife, bird and wildflower photography. Andy's favorite place to spend time was in the Northern Rockies, but more especially, in Yellowstone National Park. He was an avid fisherman.

Survivors include his wife, Marien Stolzenburg, south of Livingston; a son, Kurt Stolzenburg and his wife Nancy of Billings; a daughter, Sandra Champlin and her husband Alan of Laurel; two sisters-in-law, Sophie Stolzenburg of Portland, Ore., and Doris Winslow of Miles City; six grandchildren, Karen Schmitz, Bob Schmitz, Kelly Kosine, Kerry Stolzenburg, Kristin Schumacher and Bryan Stolzenburg; five great-grandchildren; three nieces and six nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, William and Robert Stolzenburg.
