James Bousa (Jim)

James Bousa was born April 22,1915, outside Gregory, SD, to Anton and Emilie Bousa.

He attended school in Colome and Gregory. He was in the Civilian Conservation Corps at Rockerville and outside Custer.

He joined the US Army and was in the 4th Cavalry at Fort Meade. He participated in the last maneuvers by horseback from Ft. Meade to Pole Mt. near Laramie, Wyoming. They averaged 30 miles a day. He fought in Europe during World War II. He was in the Normandy, Rhineland, and Northern France campaigns. Also, he fought in the Battle of the Bulge and received a Bronze Star.

Jim married Peggy Thoresen in 1942 and lived in Central City and then on the Maitland Road outside Deadwood. They had two daughters, Judy and Sandra.

He worked for Berry's Post Plant, Homestake for six years, and Black Hills Power & Light for 26 years at the Kirk Power Plant, retiring in 1979. After the death of his wife in 1983, he moved to Spearfish, living in the Willow apartments. Later he moved to Rapid City near his daughter Judy. Then he moved to California to be with his daughter Sandra.

He enjoyed deer hunting, cars, and guns, as well as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He died in Torrance, California on July 31, 2006.

He is survived by his daughter Judy (Pierre) Marcoe, Rapid City, SD, and his daughter Sandra (George) Gratz, Torrance, CA, and by seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother Henry Bousa of Sundance, WY.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife and four sisters.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 8, at 10am at the Black Hills National Cemetery.
