Arnold Clifford Oberg

Sioux Falls, SD

Arnold C. Oberg, age 100, died on Thursday January 12, 2017 at Good Samaritan Center in Lennox. SD. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday January 18, 2017 at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls, SD with burial to follow at St. Michael Cemetery in Sioux Falls, SD. Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at the funeral home with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

Arnold C. Oberg was born January 28, 1916 in Sisseton, SD to Nels and Delia (Hughes) Oberg. For the first two years of his life he lived on the family homestead near Reider, ND. 1918 Nels and Delia moved the family to Sioux Falls, SD by covered wagon. Arnold was raised and received his education here in Sioux Falls and attended Washington High School. Following high school in 1934, Arnold joined the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corp).

Arnold was united in marriage with Dorothy Gillespie on March 4, 1937 in Sioux Falls, SD. Arnold and Dorothy made their home in Sioux Falls. In 1939, Arnold worked at John Morrell and Company until December 7, 1941. He then traveled to Seattle, WA looking for work, from there Arnold went to Alaska and helped build the Alaskan Highway.

Arnold worked most of his life in the construction industry, mainly running heavy equipment. He worked all over the United States building aircraft runways, paving/grading highways, building stock damns, digging basements and other paving jobs. He also had a used car lot in Sioux Falls and enjoyed selling cars.

In addition to selling and buying cars, Arnold enjoyed attending the races at Huset’s Speedway and Soo Speedway, traveling and attending state and auto auctions.

Grateful for having shared his life are three children: Evelyn Graff and her husband, Jim, Karen Shaver and her husband, John, and Larry Oberg; son-in-law, Duane Meyer; 9 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Arnold was preceded in death by his parents: Nels and Delia Oberg; daughter, Connie Krienitz Meyer; infant son, Robert Lee Oberg; an infant daughter; one sister, Mary Lou Graves; and four brothers: Floyd, Steve, Lester and Clifford Oberg.
