Vernon Magnus Leiferman

Pukwana, SD

1934, 2756, Pierre, S-207,
1939-40, 4726, American Island (Chamberlain), SCS-7,

Vernon Magnus Leiferman was born in Pukwana, South Dakota on 2 Jun 1914 to Charles Harold Leiferman and Hilma Caroline Nelson. Vernon Magnus Leiferman married Alverda Mae Franzke and had 2 children. He passed away on 11 Aug 1990 in Claremore, Rogers County, Oklahoma.

Below is taken from the May 1939, Chamberlain Islander Company 4726 camp newspaper. While it states Mr. Leiferman as having joined the CCC in 1936, his name is also found in the 1934 region annual.

Vernon Leiferman is one of the five chosen by the SCS as exempted from April discharge. Vernon entered the CCC July 8, 1936 and is from Pukwana. Much of his time in the Cs has been spent at surveying and he has worked on this crew as leader in the past year and a half. He is assistant leader at present and is in charge of a survey crew under Mr. Gardner, agricultural engineer.
