Milo Fiala

Milo Fiala, 77, of Lake Andes, S.D., died Saturday, July 23, 1994 at Colonial Manor in Armour, S.D. Services were Tuesday at the Clements-Wiese Funeral Home at Lake Andes. The Rev. Brook McBride officiated. Burial was in Lakeview Cemetery.

Mr. Fiala was born Dec. 10, 1916, in Geddes, S.D. to Joseph and Kathryn (Svoboda) Fiala. He grew up and attended country school in Charles Mix County. At 15 he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps, where he worked for four years. Mr. Fiala joined the U.S. Navy and served for six years. He married Beverly Varuska on Feb. 10, 1948, in Vermillion, S. D. From 1948 until 1979 he worked for the Army Corps of Engineers in Pickstown as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the Lake Andes VFW and American Legion.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Gary of Pierre, S.D., Dennis of Grand Island and Ronnie of Lake Andes; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and one sister, Rose Hempel of Armour. He was preceded in death by three brothers, two sisters and one grandson.
