Emanuel Gustav Steffen

Sioux Falls, SD

Below is from the camp newspaper, Camp Static (Tigerville - Company 793) January 1938.

Emanuel Steffen is at present radio operator for this company and operates station WUCV which is the substation for this part of the Black Hills district. Mr. Steffen entered the service of the Civilian Conservation Corps on July 14, 1937, working his way to being radio operator October 1. Prior to entering the CCC Mr. Steffen attended school at Freeman, S. D., and was graduated from the Washington high school of Sioux Falls, SD. Steffen was born in Sisseton, SD, on July 20, 1919, moving with his parents to Freeman, and then to Sioux Falls.

During his high school career, Steffen was a member of the football team and participated in other sports of the school. Mr. Steffen plans on entering the division of Morse telegraphy and entering the service with a railroad company.
