Axel (Askel) William Bakken, 84, Sundance Formerly of Spearfish, SD died Tuesday, May 18, 1999 at the Crook County Nursing Home in Sundance.

He was born December 17, 1915 in Naples, SD to Arne and Annie (Reinhaug) Bakken.

On November 18, 1944 he married Adeline Hovde in Clark, SD. They farmed for several years before moving to Spearfish in 1955 where he worked at the Homestake Sawmill until his retirement in 1974. He moved to Sundance in 1990.

Survivors include two daughters: Mrs. Lou Ann (Max) Wimp, Hermosa and Mrs. Marcia (Verlin) Hayworth, Carlile, WY; six grand children: Jeff and Diane Wimp, Bill Wimp, Rapid City; Sarah, Jenny, Cody Hayworth, Carlile, WY; Tammy (Henwood) and her husband Kenny Gossel, Gillette, WY; three great grandchildren: Beth and Katie Wimp and Kyleah Nicole Gossel; two sisters: Mrs. Clara (Harold) Ness, Spearfish, and Mrs. Ruth Hagen, Clark, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded In death by his wife AdelIne, three daughters, two in Infancy, and Marvene Henwood; one grandchild, his parents and two brothers.

Services were May 22, 1999 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Spearfish with Paster Randy Fett officiating. Burial followed at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Fidler-Roberts Funeral Chapel, Sundance was in charge of arrangements.
