Maurice L. Byrd (Maury)

Funeral Mass will be Sat., July 15, for Maurice L. "Maury" Byrd, 75, Madison, who died July 13, 1995, at McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. The Rev. Richard Baumberger will officiate at the 10 a.m, services in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, and burial will be in the church cemetery.

There will be a parish scripture service to be followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7 p.m. Friday at the Weiland Funeral Chapel.

Byrd was born Nov. 9, 1919, in McCook County. He grew up in Salem, where he graduated from high school. He married Bernadette "Bonnie" Brinker on Sept. 23, 1947, at Salem. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and Korea. They moved to Madison in 1960. He worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for 37 years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the St. Thomas Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 25, Madison Elks Lodge and Madison Golf & Country Club.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie of Madison; three sons, Ronald and Patrick, both of Madison, and Richard of Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Mary Seiler of Omaha, Neb.; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; two brothers, Robert and Richard, both of Seattle, Wash.; and two sisters, Marjorie Franke and Delores Yeaton, both of Seattle.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
