Harold A. Davis

Potter County, SD

1938-42, 2765, Fort Meade, SCS SCS Tool Clerk

Harold Davis first saw light of day on a farm southeast of Gettysburg on April 2, 1920. He attended grade school at a country school near Gorman and went to Gettysburg High School for four years.

Foo's CCC Career began on July 13, 1938, the day in which he was enrolled at Fechner. Since that fateful day, he has been employed by this camp in a variety of capacities. For the first six months he labored in the field where his steady hard work won the admiration of foreman and enrollee alike. As a reward for this good work, he acted as an ass't leader in the rock quarry for three months. After this his long tenure in and about the SCS warehouse and garage began. The position of gas man was handled efficiently by him for eleven months, and in Feb. of 1940 he was appointed warehouse clerk. He received an Ass't Leaders rating in May of the same year. This was followed closely by an exemption in June and a leader's rating in September.

Harold's educational record is something in which he can take much pride. It reads like a who's who of classes taught here. The only course he hasn't received credit in that is being taught is Radio. He completed the Aircraft Sheetmetal course on Nov. 22, of this year which is a feat in itself.

During the entire period of his enrollment, Foo has been one of the most popular men in camp. His ready wit and warm personality have made him a host of friends, any one of which would be more than happy to go all-out in defense or aid of him. Although small in stature the work done by him looms large in the eyes of the SCS.

When they close the books on Co. 2765, certainly Harold Davis's name will rate close to the top when ex-enrollee's gather together and start discussing outstanding enrollees.
