Vyron H. "Wink" Winkelman was born on February 25,1921 in McHenry County, North Dakota the son of Arthur C. and Mary C. (Pien) Winkelman. He died on Saturday, November 23, 2002 at the United Retirement Center in Brookings at the age of 81 years.
Wink received his education in Bruce, SD. He was then employed at Gruen Watch Company in Cincinnati, OH for several years before going to work for Bechtolds Jewelry in Sioux Falls, SD. From 1941 to 1951, he owned Winkelmans Jewelry in Lake Preston, SD. He was united in marriage to Mary L. Longtine on October 24, 1953 in Sioux Falls. In 1955, they moved to Brookings, SD. From 1963 until 1981, they owned and operated Winks Jewelry in Brookings. Mary died on September 10, 2000 in Brookings, SD.
He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Brookings and the BPOElks Lodge #1490. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and especially spending time with family and friends. He was also a loyal fan of the Minnesota Twins.
Wink is survived by three daughters Mary Anne Brown (Dennis) of Pullman, WA, Cynthia Hofwolt (Steve) of Mitchell, SD, Lori Winkelman of Tempe, AZ; one grandson Aaron; two sisters Darla Strande (Rich) of Brookings, Athella Folden of Glen Burnie, MD; three brothers Harley Winkelman (Dawn) of Dumas, TX, Larry Winkelman (Jan) of Bruce, SD and Marlin Winkelman (Beverly) of Marshall, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
