Art was born on the family homestead December 3, 1920 in Killdeer, ND to Alberta and Katherine (Martin) Unterseher.
In 1942, he was united in marriage to Agnes Ella Herman. To this union five children were born; Judy, June, Skip, Jim and Doug.
A very hard worker, Art joined the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) at the age of 17 and worked building bridges and roads and other construction projects until the age of 19. He worked various construction jobs and mining until he moved to Lead, SD in 1960 and was hired on at Homestake Gold Mine. He was employed there until he retired.
In 1969, he was united in marriage to Bonnie Ruth Fiester, who died in 2010. She had six daughters and one son.
Art loved to spend time in the outdoors, whether working in his yard, fishing, camping, rock hunting and collecting, or hunting. He was a lifetime member of the Country Music Association, and whenever possible he would be out dancing. In his younger days, he was quite a roller skater and harmonica player. Cooking was a specialty and he especially liked to create his own wild game recipes. He had a love for animals and enjoyed watching wildlife. Some of his hobbies were making jewelry, working on carpentry projects, sand blasting, cutting and polishing rocks. Art enjoyed life, joking around, being surrounded by family, visiting with people and made friends wherever he went.
Art is survived by his four children, Judy (Ritchie Nordstrom) Jones, Rapid City, SD, June (Daryld) Fritz, Spearfish, SD, Skip (Dori) Unterseher, Aberdeen, WA and Doug (Deb) Unterseher, Gillette, WY; daughter-in-law (Bobbie) Unterseher, Newcastle, WY; 14 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
