Leo John Ter Meer, 92, Alexandria, died Sunday, April 24, 2005, at Sioux Valley Hospital, Sioux Falls.

Funeral services will be at 10:30a.m. Thursday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Ethan. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bittner Funeral Chapel, Mitchell, with a 7 p.m. Scripture service.

He was born on Jan. 10, 1913, on a farm near Plankinton to Joseph and Giziena (VanderMay) Ter Meer.

He grew up west of Ethan and attended rural schools.

He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps for two years in the Black Hills.

He married Lorraine Kurtenbach on Jan. 29, 1940, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church Dimock.

They farmed from 1940 until 1959 near Ethan.

In 1959, they moved to Mount Home, Ark, and operated a fishing resort.

They returned to South Dakota in 1962and farmed until 1992.

He lived on the farm near Ethan until fall 2004. For the past few months, he had lived with his daughter.

He was a longtime member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and served on the church council. He was on the Hanson County ASCS Committee Board and was clerk and treasurer for Worthen Township Board.

He is survived by one daughter, Jacqueline Breck and husband, Edward, Sioux Falls; three sons: Gerald, Alexandria; Vilas and wife, Darlene, Hendricks, Minn.; and Keith and wife, Janice, Sioux Falls; 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; one brother, Alfred and wife, Viola, Sun Valley, Ariz.; one sister, Esther Goldhammer and husband, Clarence, Mitchell; two sisters-in-law: Regina Schlimgen and husband, Dick; and Catherine Kurtenbach and husband, Herbert; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife on June 23, 2001; his parents, and two brothers: John and Howard.
