John Harry Benedict

John Harry Benedict, 96, of Albany passed away Sunday November 14, 2010 at Quail Run Assisted Living at the Mennonite Home in Albany. John was born in Springfield, S.D. on October 9, 1914, to Harry G. and Ethel Baker Benedict. He married Ruth Ermina Edwards on Sept. 6, 1939, in Corvallis. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946. He lived in Lewisburg for most of his life.

John worked for the United States Postal Service for many years and retired as superintendent. He and Ruth enjoyed traveling after his retirement. He enjoyed bowling, and was a member of a league until he was 90. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting, printing presses and watching football. He loved his little dogs and spent many happy times with his children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.

John is survived by his children, Daniel Benedict of Philomath, Steve Benedict of Harrisburg, Jeanette Goeke of Albany and Nancy Little of Roseburg; sister Agnes Edwards of Albany; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth.

A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Corvallis. Rev. Bill Knopf will officiate.
