The weather may be nice in California, but Forest Ranger Ralph A. Smith and Forestry Clerk Orland F. Kieffer have evidence to show that South Dakota has some nice weather of its own. December 21, 1933 on the eve of winter, and at a time when snow and ice usually prevail, C.C.C. camp boys here reported seeing a gaiter snake and grasshoppers near the Rice Farm on the old Keystone road.
Orland F. Kieffer of Rapid City, SD was married to Ora Elaine Kieffer (Sheely). Mr. Keifer worked on Mount Rushmore in 1929. He was born May 10, 1909 and died March 11, 1988. Burial Midland Cemetery, Midland, Haakon County, SD.
